Licensing
Mortgage loan originator
An individual licensed to take residential mortgage loan applications and negotiate terms. Licensed separately from the company they work for.
A mortgage loan originator is the licensed individual who takes residential loan applications or offers loan terms for compensation. The role is licensed through the NMLS in addition to the company's own license.
States that license originators generally expect each one to hold an active individual license, complete pre-licensing and continuing education, and clear a background check. The company and its originators are licensed on separate but linked tracks.
